The Gospel is a mission. As a Church Planter, you are Gospel sent. Jesus has sent you to a city, a context, and a people. So, it’s time to start meeting people and networking in your new community.
Developing Contacts in Your New Community
It’s day one — the first day on the job as Mr. Church Planter. The books are all unpacked and the office is pretty much set up. The kids are in their schools. You know where the grocery store and the doctors are. You are now officially a new Church Planter in your community. Now what do you do? Be careful, what comes natural might take over if you are not intentional in this area.
What you need to do is start Networking in the community and city. Find the ways in which lines of relationships are made. One Church Planter, who spent enormous amounts of time meeting with people in the community, was asked more than once, “Dave, are you running for mayor?”
In every community there are strategic people, “gatekeepers” or “tribal leaders.” Who are the strategic people in your community?
